The Team Lead assists the Production Shift Supervisor in overseeing the company assets and providing guidance to manufacturing operations on their shift. Directs production, generally in a specified department, resulting in on-time completion of product according to established quality standards. Takes on some supervisory roles in their area(s)/departments of expertise while continuing to operate machinery they are qualified on, when required.

  • Maintains a safe environment with respect to equipment, facility, and process through education in safety and constant vigilance regarding safe practices and procedures in all production areas.

  • Performs assignments related to shift supervision including scheduling priorities, allocating resources, resolving problems, and providing direction.

  • Consults with the prior shift regarding relevant information.

  • Reviews the “next 16” for special instructions pertaining to the jobs to be produced during the shift.

  • Verifies the quality of work though periodic monitoring of product and troubleshooting of process, including check out and signing off on orders

  • Assists in developing training plans for employees

  • Builds and promotes a team environment among supervisors, management and staff with open and transparent communication

  • Reviews production orders to assist in optimizing the production schedule.

  • Assists in maintaining the overall efficiency of department(s) working the shift, by monitoring each operation during the shift.

  • Coordinates equipment maintenance and repair as needed during the shift.

  • Coordinating efforts to ensure performance standards and goals are met.

  • Review material returned by a customer and provide appropriate feedback to shift employees.

  • Works with Department Manager to resolve quality issues and CAPAs

  • Provide appropriate recommendations to the Department Manager to create or update work instructions for the shift.

  • Conducts shift exchange with other Leads and Supervisor and monitor communications.

  • Ensure established work instructions are being followed by the shift personnel. Assist in developing and implementing any new operating procedures.

  • Provides technical and problem solving expertise to other operators who encounter problems.

  • Assists in the cross training of Press Operators to learn to become proficient operators of presses utilizing press technology which they are not proficient on.

  • Ensures performance standards are met

  • Monitors waste at each machine center

  • Maintains production reports including run and downtime data

  • Assists with staffing requirements for the shift, overtime staffing and vacation coverage

  • Covers machine centers that Production Lead is qualified on when needed

  • Makes recommendations regarding individual employee evaluations and performance reviews


  • High School Diploma required or equivalent, and trade-based education, certification or apprenticeship program to apply technical theories to production processes and plans.

  • Minimum 3 years of experience in lead’s area of expertise to effectively assist department staff and successfully train personnel on equipment as required

  • Production Lead must have experience in at least 2 of the 3 areas for Press (Press/Mounting/Ink) and Post Press (Bag/Lam/Rewind)

  • Excellent communication, organizational, and multi-tasking skills to prioritize and manage a variety of simultaneous issues, and to communicate effectively with production personnel, customers, and vendors.

  • Basic computer skills in Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook are required to perform the support activities associated with the General Responsibilities of the position.

  • Good knowledge of printing and flexographic packaging is required to effectively plan and monitor the production process and analyze problems (or variances) as they develop.
