Position Summary:
The machine operator/pressmen shall be able to safely produce high quality paper bags in accordance with the production schedule, set up instructions, operating procedures and quality specifications. Must ensure that the quality and quantity of goods conform to company’s standards.
Essential Functions & Key Responsibilities:
Setup and operate bag machine/press and support equipment to convert paper into bags
Read and verify work orders/ print jobs
Understand print job requirements and quality issues to ensure optimum work cycles
Mount Flexo plates to cylinders/sleeves
Perform quality checks on finished products to ensure packaging integrity and print quality
Monitor correct product weights and ensure that they are maintained throughout the shift
Complete daily production entry/ paperwork
Comply, understand and follow all safety procedures
Clean machinery and maintain a safe and clean work area
Make certain that each packaging machine/ press is in good repair and works in accordance to regulations set by company.
Perform regular and preventative maintenance on presses and packaging machines to ensure optimum work cycles.
Educate workers on exercising caution to avoid accidents and prevent injuries
Assist in developing SOPs and handle reviews of manufacturing batch records
Load and unload items into packaging machines and remove rejected packages to be isolated as surplus
Reset machines following malfunctions or need for repeated cycles
Stack packaged items in storage areas or on delivery pallets using pallet jack
Create daily reports regarding packaged products and storage and delivery orders
Must have working knowledge of Holweg, Beasley French, Wolverine or similar type of Flexographic printing/ paper converting machinery.
Troubleshoot issues and perform maintenance.
Repair machine and make adjustments to machinery when necessary to improve performance/and or quality.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
At least 5 years prior experience in operating a paper bag or envelope machine
High School diploma or equivalent
Ability to work 10 hour days
Ability to perform the essential functions of the job without accommodation
Required for operator to be able to read and comprehend documents such as manuals and operational instructions so they can work on different types of packaging machine.
Able to work extended hours and possess good manual dexterity (shifts – late or early hours, weekends, and overtime if necessary)
Must be detailed oriented
Ability to perform mathematical calculations (add, subtract, multiply, divide)
Physical Requirements:
Must be able to stand, walk (constantly – up to 10 hours) bend, stretch, squat and climb to access all parts of the machine
Lifting heavy equipment (Occasionally up to 50 pounds)
Pushing/rolling rolls of paper (Occasionally over 1,000 pounds)
Must be able to work in noisy environments.
