The Converting Department Supervisor will operate under the general direction of the Plant Manager and is considered a working supervisor with authority to oversee the day to day activities in the Pouching and Spouting departments. The position is accountable for the safety, quality, and productivity for the department and will work closest with the Converting staff to meet business objectives.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Ensure safety of all employees. Hold production employees accountable for adhering to ProAmpac safety rules as well as all federal and state regulations pertaining to safe work environment. Make sure machines are running under safe conditions and that all walkways are clean and clear. Identify hazards and unsafe practices. Report all injuries to the safety coordinator and managers immediately.

  • Supervise, coordinate or assist with the needs and activities of hourly employees within the pouching and spouting departments.

  • Supervise all production and reporting activities for assigned shift. Oversee scheduling for both shifts and ensure department is fully staffed to cover vacations, absences and minimize overtime by utilizing your crews appropriately.

  • Ensure compliance to EPA, FDA, and OSHA requirements as well as SQF, GMP and ISO standards.

  • Ensure that operators and packers are adhering to quality standards set by ProAmpac and the specifications of each customer.

  • Be available for First Article sign-offs and work with quality to provide consistent and reasoned guidance in identifying and addressing defects. Be accountable for the quality of pouches produced during your shift.

  • Maintain ongoing communication with planning and Plant Manager to ensure production priorities are being met.

  • Monitor downtime and scrap levels. Step in to assist when possible. Escalate issues with an order to the necessary parties in a timely manner.

  • Make Plant manager aware of any inefficiencies, grievances or opportunities for improvement.

  • Ensure all production reporting is done accurately and submitted daily.

  • Communicate any pertinent issues to the next shift.

  • Ensure operators are following appropriate Syteline procedures to allow ease of inventory control.

  • Assist in employee recruitment, orientation and recognition.

  • Identify training needs and coordinate employee training with HR and Converting Process Lead. Ensure all training is appropriately documented.

  • Train, direct and mentor employees with diverse language, cultural and educational backgrounds.

  • Build and maintain productive employee relationships to foster teamwork and ownership of safety, quality and productivity objectives.

  • Recommend disciplinary action as needed to the Plant Manager.

  • Conduct regular meetings to update department employees on production goals, performance, safety concerns, and other topics as needed.

  • Perform ongoing evaluation of employee performance, documenting corrective actions and carrying out annual reviews with the direction of the Plant Manager.

  • Perform other tasks or assignments as required by ProAmpac

SQF Responsibilities

  • Overall supervision of department activities and personnel

  • Ensure subordinates are trained and competent to comply with product quality and food safety requirements

  • Day to day compliance with quality, food safety and prerequisite programs

  • Manage hazardous waste

  • Resolve food safety concerns

  • Backup – Production Manager, other Department Leads


  • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent work history.

  • Good verbal & written communication skills. Ability to communicate effectively with employees of all levels.

  • Ability to read a tape measure in millimeters and inches, blue prints, and drawings.

  • Ability to work outside of scheduled hours as required.

  • Experience using computer applications to input and retrieve data.
