Work 10 hour shift from 5am-3pm standing the majority of the shift.

Primary Duties :

  • Understands how to read the docket at the start of the shift and start of every job including special instructions.

  • Does a complete bag check every half hour.

  • Make sure all paperwork is completed by the end of the shift. This includes downtime sheets updated during the shift.

  • Set up machine order specifications.

  • Knows how to read tickets and match with the dockets completely.

  • Handles jams and machine adjustments during the course of the shift.

  • Complete roll changes in a timely fashion.

  • Read and understand work orders & blue lines

  • Sign off on Quality Inspection report every half an hour

  • Make sure all guards are in place

  • Keep machine area and aisles clean

  • Able to run and change over machine

  • Produce quality bags

  • Catch bags

  • Pull test on seals and bags

  • Fold bags

  • Put bags in boxes

  • Pick up rolls up to 35 pounds

  • Pinching stacks of bags to put in boxes

  • Increase daily rate of production while keeping down waste

  • Set up & gauge printers as necessary

  • Train potential operators

  • Complete sign offs on jobs at the start of the shift and after the changeover.

  • Must know where all power, air, and water cutoffs are located on the machines.

  • Top of scale operators should know bag machines if applicable.

  • Responsible for reporting any issues to the lead or supervisor.

  • Must be able to keep the machine running and troubleshoot when there are issues.

  • Ensures that the rolls match the paperwork.

  • Reports any overrun or short orders.

  • Relieves packers about every 2 hours for breaks.

  • Adhere to safety policies and procedures and all ProAmpac-Hartford Division policies and procedures as included in the employee handbook to ensure safety for self and fellow employees and to ensure behavior is appropriate in the workplace.

  • Perform job duties accurately so that other personnel and departments and ultimately customers receive correct information and/or product.

  • Maintain a customer focused perspective in all activities initiated to ensure that customer needs are successfully met.

  • Work effectively in a fast paced work environment with neighboring plant departments in a team atmosphere to develop multi-functional solutions.

  • Maintain good house-keeping practices throughout the areas.

  • May be assigned other duties plant wide as time allows.

  • Follow all applicable instructions relative to food safety and the SQF Food Safety Management System, including Employee GMP's.

  • Report food safety problems to personnel with the authority to initiate actions.

  • Regular lifting of product 10-12 lbs.

  • Occasional lifting of product 50-60 lbs.

  • Able to work 10 hour shift standing, M-Th with OT as needed on Fri., days/nights


The Bag Operator position works under little supervision, and is accountable to perform duties in a timely and effective manner. Failure to perform duties appropriately may result in misreading work orders and producing an incorrect product. Errors cause inconvenience to internal personnel. This could cause potential frustration to customers due to delays and/or receiving an incorrect product.

The Bag Operator's achievements will be evaluated according to the following:

  • Work in a manufacturing plant utilizing computers, dollies, forklift, hand tools, safety knives, packaging equipment, pallet jacks and standard safety equipment.

  • Vision capabilities include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

  • Must be able to work overtime as needed.
