Job Description

The Production Supervisor is responsible for leading, motivating, and supporting the production team in either the print or bag department. Ensures that production quantity, quality, safety goals are met while creating a great work place and inspiring the team. This position supervises as many as 18 – 50+ employees.

This position works shifts with the production employees managed.

Current Shifts worked.

1) 1st Shift: 7am – 3pm

2) 2nd Shift: 3pm – 11pm

3) 3rd Shift: 11pm – 7am

4) 4:30 am to 4:30 pm Continuous

5) 4:30 pm to 4:30 am Continuous

6) Occasional Saturdays

Key Responsibilities

Below are the highest priority responsibilities performed in this position on a monthly basis. This includes approximate percentage of time each month spent doing these tasks.

33% Effectively lead, communicate, and direct production crew. Supervise employees in the day to day production operations to ensure safety, quality, and productivity. Clearly communicate expectations to employees on every shift and hold them accountable for doing their job. Train, coach, and develop employees in job duties and role model desired behaviors to create a positive work environment where employees achieve results and where employee input is valued. Lead employees to work effectively as a team that understands and adheres the company’s high quality and safety standards. Recognizes and reinforces positive behavior and coaches employees on needs for improvement. Addresses employee performance and attendance issues and partners with HR for documentation and counseling. For open positions, interviews qualified candidates and assists in making hiring decisions.

33% Maintain and improve required daily production goals leveraging shift staff. Ensure production operation is effective in compliance with established run speeds and productivity goals and that outputs meet quality standards. Ensures all necessary materials are available for the crews to do their jobs. Ensures a clean work place and that all safety procedures are being followed. Follows up where issues. Addresses mechanical, operational, and technical downtime issues and involves maintenance, production manager, and plant General Manager when necessary.

34% Maintain all required administration including production, safety, and quality logs and reports. Responsible for HR administration for staff including reviewing, updating, and approving daily time and attendance. Works with HR where issues.

Desirable but not required

1+ Experience in bag or related industry is helpful

1+ Experience with printing or as press operator is helpful

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Manufacturing experience to be comfortable working in fast paced 3 shift production environment

  • Supervisory skills to be able to teach, inspire, motivate, coach, train, and performance manage hourly production employees

  • Communication skills to be able to effectively communicate with production manager, plant General Manager, office staff, and Corporate Staff

  • Ability to work independently and manage a process from start to finish, involving others as necessary

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and be comfortable managing multiple priorities, sometimes under tight timelines.

  • Attention to detail

  • Experience with quality and lean is helpful

  • Experience using computers for production systems, reporting and for HR supervisory duties (i.e. approving time off)

  • Proficient with Microsoft Word and Excel

General Requirements

  • Ability to bend, twist, kneel.

  • Ability to occasionally lift up to 50 lbs.

  • Ability to perceive colors. (generally used for production positions – must be job related)

  • Must have manual dexterity (generally used for production positions)

Food Safety Training received annually:

  • Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP’s)

  • Personnel Practices

  • Chemical Control

  • Cleaning

  • Food Defense

  • Allergen Control

  • HACCP (every 3 years)

Requirements
