  • Plans and implements safety and environmental policies and procedures in compliance with local, state, and federal rules and regulations. This includes written programs, recordkeeping, reports, inspections, monitoring, testing, and training. Employee also remains current in changing EHS regulations.

  • Supports Corporate and on-site EHS initiatives, assignments, projects, and processes.

  • Directs, develops and delivers safety, health and environmental training programs to ensure employees’ knowledge, understanding and adherence to safety and environmental regulations. Including but not limited to fire prevention, correct handling techniques for chemicals, toxins, equipment, and other materials, blood borne pathogens, hazardous communication, lockout/tagout and emergency action plans.

  • Manages a team and is responsible for all personnel decisions including interviewing, hiring, and training, planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

  • Manages and completes monthly environmental recordkeeping and inspections as needed to assure compliance with applicable permits, regulations, and requirements.

  • Files for annual local, state and federal environmental reports potentially including air, waste, water, Tier II, and Form R.

  • Manages workers compensation cases to ensure reasonable return to work and cost containment.

  • May directly or indirectly through a team Conduct safety orientation of new hires, contractors and visitors which includes PIV certification if necessary.

  • Manages hazardous waste disposal program.

  • Manages EHS programs, including cost control/reduction and accident prevention/ reduction, safety behavior audit and risk assessment programs.

  • Analyzes safety history to identify unsafe trends/behaviors and uses information to develop safety strategies.

  • Plans and implements programs to train managers and employees in work site safety practices, including but not limited to fire prevention, correct handling techniques for chemicals, toxins, equipment, and other materials, blood borne pathogens, hazardous communication, lockout/tagout and emergency action plans.

  • May directly or indirectly through a team lead safety committee to inspect and detect existing or potential accident and health hazards, determines corrective or preventative measures where indicated, and follows up to ensure measures have been implemented.

  • Conduct inspections and audits to ensure compliance to the ProAmpac EHS standards.

  • Coordinate visits from internal and external regulatory authorities.

  • Remains current in changing EHS regulations.

  • Coordinates development of an EHS improvement strategic plan through collaboration with managers.

  • All other duties as needed.

Requirements

  • BS degree in Environmental, Occupational Health and Safety, or related field.

  • 5 + years’ experience performing EH&S within a manufacturing environment

  • Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM), Certified Safety Professional (ASP/CSP), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) preferred

  • Experience in evaluating/interpreting OSHA, EPA and DOT regulations and NFPA, ANSI, ASTM, and ASME standards preferred.

  • Subject matter expert and experience in overall ownership/execution in both safety and environmental

  • Experience using Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Power Point), Visio, Teams and Outlook.

  • Maintains strict confidentiality and protects privacy of confidential/sensitive information.

  • Exceptional time management and organization skills. Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously establishing priorities to meet deadlines.

  • Ability to communicate effectively (verbal, written, and presentations) with executive leadership, staff, and internal and external clients.

  • Proactive; exercises sound judgment and decision making; able to identify problems and needs and develop solutions and/or options.
